About Meander

Who We Are

We met on the New River in West Virginia in 2007, working as whitewater rafting guides and building a life around time outside. What started as a shared love for rivers and birds grew into something bigger—years spent working in wild places, building careers in wildlife biology, a wonderful marriage, and continuing to return to the water whenever we could. Meander is a reflection of that path. It’s our way to share the places we care about and the kind of experiences that first brought us together.

AMY

Amy is a conservation scientist, biologist, water resource professional, and Montana environmental policy expert. With experiences working in the Montana State Capitol, serving as the Executive Director for a Montana water conservation non-profit, and earning a master’s degree from the University of Nevada studying wildlife ecology, her career has given her invaluable insights to the natural systems within Montana. She brings a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to guiding, along with a natural ability to create a welcoming, relaxed experience for every guest.

Jack

Jack is a wildlife biologist with an extensive background in avian research, with a specialty in raptor biology. With over 10 years of experience working in Montana, his work has focused on understanding and protecting the landscapes and species that define this region. In addition to his work in Montana, Jack has spent time conducting research in a wide variety of ecosystems in places like, the beaches of Hawaii and Florida, the forests of the eastern United States, and the mangrove swamps of Jamaica. On the river, he brings a combination of technical guiding experience, ecological understanding, and geological knowledge, helping others see not just what’s there, but how it all connects.

We believe the best experiences in wild places aren’t rushed. Slowing down creates space to pay attention: to the movement of the river, the behavior of wildlife, and the small details that most people pass by.

Meander exists to create that kind of time. Not just to see a place, but to understand it, connect with it, and leave with something that lasts longer than the day itself.

Why We Meander

We keep things simple and intentional. Small groups, thoughtful pacing, and experiences shaped around the conditions, the landscape, and the people on the trip.

Every day is a little different. We follow curiosity when it leads, take time where it matters, and guide with a balance of professional experience and genuine presence. The goal isn’t to cover the most ground—it’s to make the time you spend out here feel meaningful.

Additionally, we bring a safety first mindset to all of our adventures. With professional trainings, decades of field experience, and careful decision-making, you can trust that you’re in capable and attentive hands when you’re with Meander.
